What did Jesus really say and do? (Adult Bible Study )
Most of it is in the Gospel of Mark. You are invited to meet with Mother Anne to take a lively look at this fast moving and shortest of all the Gospels. You are welcome to offer your own questions and perspectives. We will meet in the rectory parlor (across the street from the church} on Summer Sundays from 9AM – 9:45 starting on August 2 and on Monday evenings from 7:30 PM to 8:30 Pm starting on August 3. (Excepting August 17.) The study will begin with a short introduction on the origins and the translations of the Bible.
Weddingd and Baptisms:
The very best way to arrange for a wedding or a baptism is to speak to our priest, Mother Anne Wrede, immediately after any worship service. She will then arrange for a private meeting with you. Arrangements for baptisms are made in person with the priest by a parent or the person to be baptized if he or she is over the age of 16. In many cases a legal guardian can make the arrangements. The Baptism may take place after a formal preparation meeting with the priest, which usually takes place the week before the Baptism. Weddings can be scheduled only after the first formal meeting with the priest. Officiating at a wedding or a baptism is one of the most blessed experiences of being a member of the clergy. Mother Anne is more than happy to do both.
About Illness and Hospital visits.
Our priest, Mother Anne can arrange to make hospital or home visits to say prayers for healing and to bring Holy Communion. In urgent situations she usually can meet you in a hospital emergency room. You can reach her through the church office at 856-467-1227.
About Funerals:
The liturgy for the dead in the Episcopal Church is an Easter liturgy. It finds all its meaning in the Resurrection. because Jesus was raised from the dead, we, too, shall be raised. The liturgy, therefore, is characterized by joy, in the certainty that “neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.” This joy, however, does not make human grief unchristian. The very love we have for each other in Christ brings deep sorrow when we are parted by death. Jesus himself wept at the grave of his friend. So, while we rejoice that one we love has entered into the nearer presence of our Lord, we sorrow in sympathy with those who mourn.
At the time of death
When a loved one dies of if you believe that death is near, you are encouraged to phone our priest, Mother Anne Wrede, right away day or night. She will meet with you and your family privately for vigil prayers. She will go with you to the funeral home to make arrangements if you wish. You can reach her through the church office at 856-467-1227.
